Jalfrezi (also known as jhal frezi, zalfrezi, zalfraizi, jaffrazi) is a curry dish from India. According to Wikipedia source, Jalfrezi recipes appeared in cookbooks of British India as a way of using up leftovers by frying them with onions and chili. This is more like a vegetable stir fry mixed with Indian spices and paneer for that extra protein content. There are variation to this dish with just vegetables (without paneer) or also with chicken calling it then Chicken Jalfrezi. If you are allergic to lactose or prefer vegan, substitute paneer with firm tofu very easily. You would hardly notice any change in the flavor of the dish.
Paneer Jalfrezi is a quick but a dry dish which means there is no gravy, thus making it a perfect dish with pulao or biryani in case of rice and naan, chapati or parathi for those who prefer bread. I had it last evening with some hot paratha and a side of fresh salad. I am sure I slept peacefully, thanks to the meal.
