Something that I always am ready to make at home when in doubt is Jeera Rice. And its the easiest rice variation possible and can be done in no time. I generally have cooked rice leftovers few times and this is my best possible answer to those times.

And if you are a Indian restaurant lover, haven’t you enjoyed jeera rice with daal fry or jeera rice with chicken curry. Its an absolute must combination if must try! Last week I paired it with Veg Kadai (mix veg curry) and enjoyed restaurant style meal right at home.

Jeera Rice (Cumin Flavoured Rice) Yum
Instructions
  1. Wash the rice under running water for atleast 2 mins till the water runs clear. This step is a must for all Indian rice. Drain the rice and let it rest.
  2. In a braadpan or a wok, add ghee or oil. Once its hot enough add the cumin seeds and let them splutter for 60 seconds. Stay away from the flame.
  3. Add the chopped green chilli and stir for another 60 seconds. Add the washed rice to the pan along with salt and mix everything well/ Don't toss it too vigorously as this might break the rice grains and you might not have a good jeera rice.
  4. Add 360 ml water to the rice in the pan and increase the heat. Let this boil for 3-4 mins. Put a lid, reduce the heat to a minimum and let the rice cook for 12 mins.
  5. After 12 mins, turn off the flame and remove the lid. Let the rice sit in the pan without touching it with a spoon. Add the chopped coriander leaves and after 5 mins of rest using a fork fluff the rice very carefully. You will see perfectly cooked separate grains of basmati rice flavoured with cumin.
  6. Serve this warm with any daal or paneer dish
